What a beautiful church we have! Our little church on the hill has the most amazing view of Sturgeon Creek on one side and bustling Portage Avenue on the other. Our gardens in the summer add beauty and peacefulness. Step inside and you see the beauty continues. It is a lot of work to maintain all of this and we don’t know what we would do without our main Maintenance Man Ken and his crew of helpers who keep up on everything.

We thought we would share some of the work that has occurred behind the scenes over the past several months. A training session was arranged to teach everyone how to operate our new lift that went in during our first shut down. When all of the white stuff was on its way a new snow clearing company and sanders were arranged to keep our parking lot cleared and sidewalks safe. Security Cameras have been installed for the protection of everyone and training has taken place.

Staying on top of lighting in our church and hall is a full time job; 27 light fixtures in the upper Parish Hall have had the fluorescent bulbs/tubes replaced with LED’s and new ballasts. Two LED floodlights have been installed in the ceiling of the church to shine additional lights on the alter. This greatly aids in  the quality of the streaming services by Reverend Liz. Two new light fixtures on the north and south walls to improve the choir area lighting are currently being worked on. One light has been installed on the north side and is being evaluated. The flood light bulb shining on the church cross on the bell tower was replaced.

In response to a safety concern additional handrails have been installed leading to the church upper and lower levels. These make a huge difference. Other jobs have included; repairing a hall cupboard used by a new renter, switching the door with a window from the men’s choir cloak room to Revered Liz’s office, installing a coat hook and, interior kick plate on the Parish Hall vestibule outer door, painting the metal cross on the Portage Avenue side of the Parish Hall, and securing the eaves trough down pipe on the south end of the Church. A fire inspection was also completed!

Are you tired yet?  We are so thankful for these hard behind the scene workers. The next time you see Ken and his work crew please pass on your appreciation!
