The Anglican Church Women’s group with the generous support of the parish continues to operate the Rummage sales on a monthly basis in the lower Parish hall. With advertising reaching a greater number of people, our sales figures are on the upswing. The ACW meeting in December saw the proceeds of the Rummage Sales and the Parish Bazaar disbursed to a number of charities – Agape Table, Rossbrook House, 1Just City and the Christmas Orange project - that focus on supporting women, children and those less fortunate. We also directed some of the proceeds to the church in order to assist in the operation of the church and hall.
The ACW now meets on the first Monday of the month for coffee and baked goodies and then for general discussion. We start at 1:30. We will continue to operate the Rummage sales and organize the next Parish Bazaar – November 2nd, 2024.
Following the 10:00 service, on alternating Sundays, coffee hour takes place in the church hall. It is a great time to gather with friends while you enjoy a coffee or tea and light snack.
There is an opportunity for parishoners to sign up to bring the light snack and serve the coffee and tea. We would love for you to sign up for a Sunday! Don't worry you will have help! A team of people have volunteered to take turns setting up for coffee hour, which involves setting up tables and chairs, making coffee and tea, assisting hosts and helping with clean up. We welcome more volunteers for this task as well!
There are many ways we try to share the many wonderful events, activities and news from St. Andrew. We are thankful for our Connecting Editor, Kelly and our lead person Laura! Laura reminds us of due dates and articles needed. Kelly takes all of our articles and news items and turns them into a great quarterly newsletter. What a team!

St Andrews Creekside quilters meet weekly at our beautiful church that resides beside Sturgeon Creek in our community of St. James. These ladies work tirelessly to complete works of quilting art. They generally work on a major project that is raffled annually and the ACW Tea and Bazaar. It is a hot commodity and the tickets sell like hotcakes. Not only do they create a beautiful symbol of their hard work but they build lasting relationships along the way. This is a cherished ministry in our church and we are grateful to those who put their time and talent into this endeavour.
The Friends of St. Andrews are a group of dedicated parishioners who cater to events taking place in the church. Luncheons after funerals, celebratory luncheons, or church event catering are some examples of what they take on. We currently have 3 leaders who oversee small groups in their preparation of each event. Purchasing, preparation and presentation goes into planning. We are so thankful to have these dedicated people take this on – no small feat. Our current leaders are Doreen Pattie, Pam Green and Noreen Ponton.
Greeters perform a very special ministry. Visitors will develop an opinion of our church within a couple of minutes of arrival! It is important that you as a Greeter are prepared to effectively communicate words of welcome and aid everyone attending! Additionally, greeters hand out the service leaflets and offer help as it is required being particularly sensitive to all needs. They assist with the use of the elevators, invite newcomers to sign the guest book and instruct church goers to place the collection on the offertory plate. The church bell is rung 5 minutes prior to the service. Greeters unlock the door to the church’s lower level as required and assist in any emergencies that arise. One greeter also carries out a count of attendees. Greeters also assist in the processing of envelopes if needed. Currently George Wright heads our Greeter Teams.
St. Andrew's Rummage sales take place on the 4th Saturday of the month from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Susan Chadwick is the leader of this group and welcomes help for both sorting and assisting at the sale. Sorting takes place on the Thursday before the sale. Contact Susan if you are interested in assisting.
Parishoners are encouraged to leave their donations outside of the rummage room in the lower level of the hall.
The gardeners at St. Andrew’s are responsible for planting and maintaining the summer gardens. Our memorial cross is generally planted with red geraniums and looks beautiful throughout the summer months. Lots of planting, watering, weeding and dead heading of old blooms keeps the gardens beautiful. The perennial plants are also tended to. Lynda and Herb Thompson are currently tending our gardens. What a wonderful job they have done!
Is there a craft you want to finish but would prefer to do it in the company of others?
This group meets to prepare for our Christmas Bazaar. Stay tuned for when it starts in the fall.
There is a group who meet on Mondays (with the exception of holiday Mondays) at 9:30 in the church hall to work on unfinished crafts. Come join us! You may learn a new craft.
Churches require lots of maintenance. From changing lightbulbs, to installing a new lift, to taking care of hornets’ nests, maintaining furnaces, air conditioning, contracting snow removal ……… the list goes on and on. Many hands have worked on completing the necessary jobs over the years. Currently Ken Wardle is the head of property maintenance. I don’t think many of us realize what goes into to keeping a church in shape! He is always looking for extra hands to complete the many jobs that need to be done and would welcome any help you offer.
Woodhaven Food Bank

Woodhaven Food Bank started in the fall of 2023. We are very fortunate to have many volunteers assist us on alternate Thursdays with setting up, picking up food from Harvest, assisting clients and cleaning up. Our clients register with Harvest Manitoba and come on their designated week between 3:30-5:30.
